Infertility

Dr Amita Shah has more than 20 years of experience in the field of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. She has been the head of department at Columbia Asia Hospital for the last 12 years and now heads the department of obstetrics and gynaecology at Apollo Cradle Hospital, Sector-14 and Miracles Mediclinic, Sector-56.

Infertility is a condition where a couple is unable to conceive even after 12 months of regular unprotected intercourse and without any use of birth control measures. Infertility can be due to the woman (33%), the man (33%) and by both sexes or due to unknown problems (33%), approximately.

There are two kinds of infertility :

Primary infertility means that the couple has never conceived.

Secondary infertility means that the couple has experienced a pregnancy before and are now finding it difficult to conceive again.

In most of the cultures infertility is assumed to be a woman’s problem which is not correct as mentioned above. Many men in India would refuse to undergo any kind of testing to find out the root cause of infertility and try to get married again to another girl on the pretext of infertility of the first wife.

Treatment of Male Infertility

A man’s sperm count gets affected by his overall health and lifestyle. Reasons for low sperm count can be:

Infertility Treatment in India, Best Doctor for Infertility in India, Best Infertility Clinic in India Heavy alcohol use

Infertility Treatment in India, Best Doctor for Infertility in India, Best Infertility Clinic in India Environmental toxins, including pesticides and lead

Treating Male Infertility involves removing the underlying reasons and lifestyle modification. Proper and healthy diet combined with regular exercise improves the general health of the male partner. Quitting smoking and drinking would greatly help in stimulating the number and health of the sperms which will improve the male fertility. There are many quacks operating in the market who claim to provide magical medicines for improving the sperm count. They are simply trying to fleece you as no such concoction is possible as per the science behind it.

Treating Female Infertility

Although a woman may need just one or two therapies to restore fertility, it’s possible that several different types of treatment may be needed before she is able to conceive.

Stimulating ovulation with fertility drugs – Fertility drugs are the main treatment for women who are infertile due to ovulation disorders. These medications regulate or induce ovulation.

Intrauterine insemination (IUI) – In this procedure the healthy and concentrated sperm from the male is placed directly into the uterus at an appropriate time of ovulation for the female.

Surgery to restore fertility – Uterine problems such as endometrial polyps, a uterine septum or intrauterine scar tissue can be treated with hysteroscopic surgery. Ovarian Cysts which are preventing pregnancy can be removed through surgery. The blocked fallopian tubes can be opened either through HSG or by laparoscopic surgery.

Invitro Fertilization (IVF) – In this procedure the eggs from the female and sperm from the male are taken and fertilized outside the body. If the quality of the egg or the sperm is not good then they can be taken from donors (remember Vicky Donor). The fertilized egg is then placed into the uterus of the female.

I have made all the pregnancy visits to Dr. Amita Shah, and my end-to-end experience with her has been wonderful. I was someone who was absolutely terrified of needles, but with Dr. Amita Shah's constant guidance and good consultation, I could overcome a lot of my stress and worries related to delivery as well as during the pregnancy phase. Both the doctor and her clinic staff are helpful and amiable. She was all ears when it came to even the tiniest of details and issues, listened calmly and resolved all my issues. She was also constantly available via phone and WhatsApp to clear any doubts that popped up in my head in addition to the in-clinic visits where she eased my mind and resolved plenty of my concerns. At the time of my delivery, she offered complete mental support and her presence itself offered calmness to me. I highly recommend Dr. Amita Shah for her professionalism, empathy and supportive attitude. By God's grace, we are blessed with a baby girl in December, and I have been on the path to a smooth and fast recovery since then.
