Some women get through their monthly periods easily with few or no concerns. Their periods come like clockwork, starting and stopping at nearly the same time every month, causing little more than a minor inconvenience.

However, other women experience various physical and/or emotional symptoms before and during menstruation. These symptoms may disrupt a woman’s life in major ways, from heavy bleeding and missed periods to unmanageable mood swings.

Heavy Bleeding (Menorrhagia) – Heavy bleeding during menstruation or periods in females is usually related to a hormonal imbalance, although fibroids, polyps, cysts, and PID, could also cause this. Thus, menorrhagia is a symptom of an underlying condition rather than a disease. It may also be related to the use of an IUD. Women with menorrhagia experience significant pain in the abdomen or lower stomach and may feel very tired due to the loss of blood.

Amenorrhea – You may also experience the opposite problem of heavy menstrual bleeding, which is no menstrual bleeding. There are two types of Amenorrhea:

  • Primary Amenorrhea – Primary Amenorrhea is diagnosed if you turn 16 and haven't menstruated. It's usually caused by a problem in your endocrine system regulating your hormones.
  • Secondary Amenorrhea – Secondary Amenorrhea is diagnosed if you have regular periods, but they suddenly stop for three months or longer.

The first thing to do is to understand your problems with patience. The doctor would then order some tests to diagnose the underlying cause of this condition. These tests may include an ultrasound scan of the abdomen and some blood tests. The ultrasound would give valuable information about the presence of ovarian cysts or uterine fibroids. At the same time, the blood tests would provide the levels for various female hormones in your body.

The solutions are mostly in medical management, but in some cases, there might also be a surgical solution. The menstrual disorder can be the symptom of some more serious disease, and if diagnosed in time, the treatment is cheaper and has a greater chance of success. The cost of consulting a gynecologist in Gurgaon is not more than Rs. 1000, while the cost for the various tests would be in the range of Rs. 2000 – 5000 for most patients.

She is the best with my experience.....I am consulting her from last 5 years. She is an expert and you can trust her. As far as I have 2 situations first one is with pregnancy of my wife where Dr Amita Shah perfectly matches our expectations and second one is removal of fibroid from uterus of my sister in law. Dr removed her fibroid via laproscopic surgery. In both the cases she is outstanding and one thing which I want to personally highlight about her is that she is very punctual.
Thank you Doctor
